The city of Senec is located at southwest Slovakia, in Bratislava county, 25km east of Bratislava. The most precious historical monument is on central square of Senec, the fortress-church Turecky Dum (Turkish house). It was built in the years of 1556 - 60 by Bratislava county major Kryštof Baťán. Up to the year of 1757, were county meetings held there, afterwards the house was used mainly as administrative building. The fortress-like character of the building is given mainly by rounded loopholes. Records exists, that there is a secret passage from the Turecky Dum to the behind alleys in the nearby built-up area. Turecky Dum withstood the attack of Turks in the year of 1663. The monument was abandoned for several years, and quite decayed, until 1994, when was a costly reconstrution finished. This reconstruction was funded by the city of Senec, and nowadays there is a stylish restaurant in the "Turkish house".
