Nejvyšší hora Moravy Praděd (1.492 m.n.m) je oblíbeným cílem turistů již od 2. poloviny 19. století. Snahy turistického spolku v Jeseníkách o zbudování rozhledny se datují na přelom 19. a 20. stol. Stavba byla po řadě peripetií zahájena 30. června roku 1904.
